Since 1971, BGW has been dedicated to excellence in professional audio amplifier design. Since Universal's Sensurround and the disco craze, BGW has been shaking audiences. Our products offer the best possible reliability and sound quality - a true engineer's amplifier. The tradition continues with BGW's introduction of the complete sub-bass solution. Demands for high level sub-bass place enormous requirements on separate system components. Typical subwoofer systems display mismatched load impedances, wasted power in cabling, and inadequate protection schemes, often resulting in failure of drivers. BGW recognized the need for a complete systems solution. The results are BGW's M2200 and M1100, simply twice as effective as any other commercially available sub-bass solution. BGW "plug 'n play" subwoofer systems seemlessly integrate into any existing installation, to create an awesome musical experience. Conservative Design BGW Engineers started with our largest Grand Touring Amplifier, the GTA. This 78 pound monster is an ideal power source for subwoofers with its enormous stored energy capacity of 340 joules, and peak output current capability of 37 amperes per channel. Two critically acclaimed BGW GTA output modules, housed in a custom 144 cfm, servo-controlled fan enclosure, provide 1900 Watts of continuous power, almost 3 horse power. The speakers used in both models were designed especially for this application. Each 15" driver uses a 4 ohm, copper edge wound voice coil. Two speakers are driven in parallel from each GTA amplifier module to optimize amplifier to speaker power transfer. The drivers are rated at 600 watts each, matching the available amplifier power of 1400 watts IHF per module. A special rubber surround and rugged spider result in exceptional excursion capability. Following BGW's long tradition of modular designs, the 16 pound magnetic structure is attached to the cast aluminum speaker basket with three bolts, allowing for quick replacement of the entire moving assembly. There is no need to replace the entire speaker, or send drivers out for re-coning. The M2200 enclosure is fabricated using 1" MDF composite, with 2" MDF forming the baffle, while the M1100 uses Baltic birch plywood. Generous porting reduces distortion and power compression. Both enclosures are tuned to 30 Hz. Ample internal bracing further stiffens the enclosure and eliminates resonances. The amplifier/processor assembly is housed in a separate chamber on the recessed back panel. For safety, protective corners and 14 gauge steel speaker grills are included on all models. Protection BGW self powered subwoofer systems have several major types of protection features unobtainable with conventional systems. The processor board common to both units includes a clipping eliminator circuit, excursion limiter circuit, additional limiter circuit, fixed high pass, and adjustable low pass filters. The clipping eliminator circuit prevents square waves from reaching the speakers and causing voice coil overheating. The circuit is capable of handling input levels up to 16dBm. The excursion limiter integrates the voltage applied to the speakers during each musical transient and reduces the gain instantaneously once the speaker's excursion limit is reached. Ported enclosures are used in the M2200 and M1100 systems. All ported boxes have the characteristic of unloading the drivers below their cut-off frequency. When unloading occurs, the speaker cones can be ripped right out of their baskets. BGW uses a steep, fixed frequency, high pass filter to prevent out of band (subsonic) signals from reaching the drivers and damaging them. This filter is a 4 pole design with a Q of 1.3, which provides 3dB of boost and 24dB/octave slope. To allow a wide range of speaker systems to work well with BGW self powered subwoofer systems, we have provided a choice of 10 adjustable low pass filter frequencies from 63 - 180Hz on 1/6 octave ISO centers. The compliment to the high pass filter is avalible on the units terminal strip, as a single ended output. Exact and repeatable selection is provided using sliding step switches located on the processor panel. After more that a year of field experience, BGW Engineers added an additional limiter circuit before the filters to prevent operator misuse. This limiter prevents excessive signals from reaching the filters and destroying their bandpass characteristics. Benefits By eliminating long speaker cables, high damping factors are preserved, and power loss in cabling is eliminated. For example, with 100 feet of 12 gauge, 2 conductor speaker cable, the damping factor is reduced from 250 (8ohm load) to 22! To maintain a damping factor of 50, number 5 wire would be required! Clearly the advantages of putting the amplifier in the speaker cabinet can make a major difference in the overall sound quality. Installation of BGW self powered subwoofer systems is simplified through the use of summing amplifier inputs. Balanced, line level, wideband signals from the system's stereo mixer are connected via XLR type connectors, making it "plug-and-play." Both models also include a high powered relay for remote control of system power. A remote mounted LED can be used for a power-on indicator as well. You Deserve a Great Performance No matter what your application, if your performance is critical, then you deserve BGW Power. No other manufacturer gives you as much acoustical power for the money as BGW... relied upon throughout the world. Go for the Best... Go for BGW. Warranty: The entire system is covered to the end user for one year from date of sale. Speakers are covered for defects in manufacturing . Prolonged use at excessively high sound pressure levels can result in permanent hearing loss and damage to the loudspeaker drivers.
